vintage report 2005

The 2005 vintage will be remembered as Australia’s largest to date.

On a local level it began an extremely promising growing season with many similarities to the previous season – dry and mild, with no February heatwaves. The dry spring meant that canopies in most varieties were well balanced and vigour moderated. The cooler conditions meant that the early ripening varieties such as Chardonnay and Pinot were outstanding, showing finesse, lifted varietal intensity and natural acidity.

At the start of March we experience a mid level rain event, and a week later conditions became much less even culminating at the end of the month in two rain events that dropped a significant amount of precipitation. Fortunately we had the vast majority of our crop picked, and were particularly pleased with our Chardonnay
