vintage report 2000

The 2000 vintage was unusual. December was unseasonably hot followed by a succession of 3 cyclones Steve, Norman and Olga which came down south as rain bearing depressions. The young vines were affected by this having got to a certain ripeness and then influenced by a sudden down pour of rain which diluted the flavour and sugar levels. This delayed the harvest of the Chardonnay on several occasions. However late March and April had good mild weather that allowed the grapes to ripen fully and whilst the yields were low the grapes seemed to have benefited from the long ripening period. This vintage produced very good Chardonnay (our only variety from this vintage).
